     "Tasty; Goes Down Well" 2009-08-12

When one sits to take a state Bar Exam, one needs to consider one's dietary choices before and during the exam very, very carefully. I used these Kashi bars as snack food during a two-day exam. They are soft, so they are quiet to eat. They are tasty (the mix of raspberry and chocolate is delicious). And, most importantly, they digest well and stay down. Another great product from the Kashi folks.

Great to have around the house as a quick "gotta have something sweet" snack (with coffee or water it counts as a meal) or to take along to work or when out for the day to help resist the temptation of expensive crap wherever you might be. Also, a box of them is a great little gift. Oh, and DELICIOUS. And fairly virtuous.

     "Too sweet" 2009-05-13

Got this in a variety pack from Costco, which also comes with Dark Chocolate Coconut and Pumpkin Pie flavors. The granola part tastes good and has a soft, chewy, moist texture. The 2 stars are because they have a fudge-like flavored layer that is just too sweet. Tooth-achingly sweet. It physically hurts to eat it. I have to cut the top layer off, which just makes the tiny bars even smaller. I cannot recommend this unless you have a very sweet tooth. Won't buy again, and will instead stick to their chewy trail mix bars.

My love affair with Kashi products is recent but no less intense for that. My pregnancy inspired me to try to adopt a healthier diet and one of the things I've been concentrating on is eliminating high fructose corn syrup. After looking at boxes and boxes of cereal bars and granola bars, I've come to rely on Kashi products because I know they don't use high fructose corn syrup. I saw this particular flavor at the store one day and quickly became hooked. I now order them by the six pack via Amazon.

The bars are a chewy sort of granola bar with a layer that's a mixture of raspberry and chocolate, topped with chopped almonds. There isn't a strong chocolate flavor to them; rather, it is more subtle with a nice hint of raspberry. In short, the bars are truly delicious. It's nice to eat something that feels like an indulgence but is providing your body with lots of healthy whole grains. I've found that eating these bars has really helped curb my sugar cravings and has made me less inclined to want highly processed foods as they are beginning to taste cloying and artificial to me in comparison with the natural, delicious flavor of these bars.

"So tastey, but why so expensive?" 2009-03-13

I love these bars, especially the dark chocolate coconut variety. They remind me of brownies (probably plenty trans fatty) I used to get out of the vending machine when I was little. But Amazon is charging 4.50 a box?? I advise to just look for them at your grocery store, I got my on sale 2/$7.
